Gold from the barn ! (Update III: chassis #700610)

Updqate III by Robert Piltch: this car has chassis # 700610
Update II: Also Stuart Penketh and Bart Oosterling came in with remarks close to that of Mark Dawber. They all conclude that this must be a late forties body. Possibly with a relation to - more likely... an attempt to look like - a '47 "Freccia d'Oro". At this point only the owner bring some more light into this with numbers of chassis to start with.
Update I: Mark Dawber jurymember expresses doubts:"I am no Alfa expert but surely this car is a postwar 2500. Either that or it has been rebodied at some time."
EARLIER: Robert Piltch sends this photo of his 1934 Alfa Romeo 6C 2300. At first glance one could think the grille has been prepared for chroming. However Robert reports "...grille and trim are Gold plated, substantiated by spectrographic analysis." And further that this car is the typical: "... 'Pescara' configuration: two side draught Solex Carburettors, the frame drilled for weight reduction, the free wheel lever on the gearbox, a 220 kph speedometer, coachwork: aluminum convertible. Please could "readers" cast their minds back to where they might have seen this Alfa Romeo with its gold plated radiator grille - ANY information gratefully received" [email protected]
