Greetings from Shanghai. (Update between the wars !)

The Chinese car industry is working on a fast come back nowadays. Come back? Was there any car production in China in those early times? Yes there was, we understand. We are not the expert in this, but after a quick search we found at least that GM moved their Far Eastern branche office from Manilla to Shanghai in 1922 (www.GM.com) and did far more than importing cars. Only recently we have learned at least there was some production under licence (see also the Shanghai Studebaker in Hemmings.com). Is there anything known about original cars made by the Chinese in those days? The photo subject here is showing the 'Shanghai Horse Bazaar and Motor Co. Ltd. ' who were a big dealer in Shanghai in the 1920's. (photo collection Fred Sharf, Shanghai)
Erik van Ingen Schenau of the China Motor Vehicle Documentation Center reports there have been several Chinese carmakes between the wars. More info to follow.
