Hi! My name is....

Hi! My name is Morris. Lovely to meet you. Yes, indeed Morris as in the car. M-O-R-R-I-S. Morris? Oh really. In the United Kingdom, it is much more common. Especially as a surname. But in The Netherlands, it is quite unusual. Especially as a girl’s name. My parents decided to call me Morris, after their first car. a 1922 Morris Bullnose, which is still in the family. And one day I will own it myself. I must confess, I do like my name and it does suit me in one way or another. But I am not the only one who is named after a car and/or a car brand. Think for instance about: Mercedes, Morgan, Austin, Dodge, Royce and Cooper. Just a handful of names I could think of. But there are of course many more names nowadays (while most brands were named after their founder of course).

Are you also named after a car? Or do you know someone who is named after a car or a car brand? Please let us know and share your story!

I am not named after a car... my surname pre-dates that.
I am named Dray, probably after a 2-wheels farm cart, but who really knows?
High-class stock, us Dray's !

Lancia owners have a rich field of names from the various model names used over the years.

For a long time I had problems with the idea to call my daughter Flavia because of the Lancia models. At last my wife and me didn't resist because we liked the name. It is a pity that there are are far better looking Lancias....

As we are now waiting for our third child to our family, we have come up with many VERY interesting suggestions for his or her name from our kids. Also, just for example, while waiting for our daughter, the little sister was proposed to be called as Toimiva Kone (Working Machine in Finnish). For some reason, in the end, we also haven't yet given our children names invented by me such as Alfa-Romeo for a boy, or Fia-Taina (=Fia-t forewer)for a girl, all perfectly good if little Swedish influenced names in the Finnish calender. But if it will be a boy, perhaps he will become Sisu - after my fathers truck company.

Not a morris as such this one- it might be based on the Morris Oxford but is in fact an early 14/28 MG. The raked windscreen and the scuttle-top ventilators are pretty good giveaways.
The wheels make it a 1924 or 25 model (later they fitted bolt on wire wheels)

Most of the list you have quoted are NOT people named after cars, but cars named after the original makers, or dealers names, the "Royce", and "Austin" cars, Mercedes Jellinek's father, Emil, wanted the Benz car named after his daughter, etc., etc.
