The very first 2015 Mystery. (update: Model T + ?)

Steve Diggins sends this very nice brass era special (?) "We have a photo on the Vintage Car Club Of Canada website of an early sports car, maybe pre WWl.  It is a posed shot by a professional photographer stationed at the Hollow Tree to pictures of people with their cars. This was done from about 1900 to the 1930's.  This might have been a race car modified for the road judging by the beaten up muffler put on to make it legal. So, what year and type is it?"

Editor, we wouldn't be surprised if it's a homebuilt special. The chassis seems fairly overdimensioned. Especially when you compare with the very small, way back positioned radiator.  We're interested to see which parts look familiar to you. Or maybe you have seen the same car elsewhere?

No, not Sequoia National Park. The photo was taken by the hollow tree in Stanley Park, which is in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The hollow tree still stands, though it's very dead and tried to fall down a year or two ago. The tree now has a steel frame holding it up.

How about a Franklin frame, a Mode T drive line, a Mercury speedster body kit and an exhaust whistle to thrill the girls?

Laydens spot on for the sump. I'd say there's possibly Buick in there, overland etc. Anyway the make is very easy. it is a 1917 Bitsa, made by Stan and Ollie Bitsa in the town of Lotzajunk North Dakota. They were famous for chasing down buffalo with this car when they weren't racing it at the now defunct Lost Badlands superspeedway in Lemonkars ND or drinking at the Broken Spoke Saloon.......Happy New Year all! Lets say you take a Franklin frame, a Model T engine, and T speedster kit body (Mercury) and put it all together for the worlds first MAC-T. For sure in Sequoia National Part, California.

The chassis looks more like solid wood rather than steel channel, although it could be a welded up box section. The way many parts are attached with domeheaded coachbolts also suggests wood.

The cantilever back springs must tell us something but they have nothing to do with a Model T.

Regardless of how you disguise and modify it, there is still a Model T Ford engine sump hanging down below.
