Le magazine et marché mondial pour les passionnés de voitures classiques, par des passionnés.
This handbook for amateur constructors was originally published in 1913. Renowned specialist Tim Gunn of Gunn & Co recently remastered this lovely book and has listed it for sale in our online marketplace. The book is not only full of content about how to actually build a cyclecar but is also full of period advertisements that classic car enthusiasts will still enjoy nowadays.
The book is written about the simple cyclecar; a type of vehicle intended to give the same efficiency as the sidecar outfit. A passenger-carrying motorcycle on four wheels, which it is possible for any amateur mechanic to construct in his spare time. The book helps those who have a desire to construct such a little car themselves.
We take:
- A chassis with a wheelbase of 7ft 8 Ins (c 230cm) and a wheel track of 3 ft 10 ins (116 cm).
- A single or two-cylinder air-cooled engine of about 750cc.
- A two or three speed gearbox.
- A two-seater body.
The book takes you step-by-step through the process, from the tools required, the construction of the workbench that you would use, the timber you would have to buy (including advice to outsource the drilling, although the book also still tells you what drills you would need), a plan for the wooden chassis, brakes, body etc. At end of the book, you can build a complete cyclecar!
Although the book was first published in 1913, it still is of interest to cyclecar-enthusiasts today. Especially in lockdown-times, it might give you a good project to work on at home.
The book ‘How to Build a Cyclecar’ can be ordered here for just £ 13.50.
