When Dennis Baars first saw this Fiat in Switzerland, he didn’t know what make it was. The car was in a poor state and it seemed to have been in a barn for a long time. It didn’t take long to persuade the owner to part with the car. All it took was a box of fine cigars. After its arrival in The Netherlands, Dennis discovered he had become the owner of a Fiat and according to the manufacturer’s plate it was a Tipo 514. It reads: “motore: 114-035791, chassis: 514-032541”. The Fiat was far from original. Someone had added a second gearbox, probably because the car had to be used for heavy snow jobs. It had a pick-up body but Fiat’s Centro Storico in Italy informed Dennis that this car had been a Berlina (fiatgroup.com), delivered in September 1931 to a garage in Geneva. Indeed there’s a small plate on the radiator which says that this part of the car had been repaired there in the 1950s.
