Ladies driving Bugattis?!

Some pre-war cars you can say are maybe (a little bit) more for ladies. You can fill in for yourself which cars you think are more for female drivers/mechanics. But why is this exactly? I am not 100% sure, to be honest. Maybe the lines and the (body)shape of the cars? The colour(s)? Although it is not that 'they' are for instance all white. Or does it have something to do with the speed? What do you think it is about ‘them’? And do not get me wrong, it is absolutely not in a negative way. In some pre-war cars, a lady looks just a lot better!

What it is we are heading to is the question; why is it that in (some) pre-war cars it (still) looks impressive if you see a lady driving, or with dirty hands under the bonnet? We are aware of the fact that the classic car world is (maybe a little bit) more of a man's world. Although there are more and more female drivers. Something which we are very pleased about because come on guys we live in 2018!

Look for instance at the lead photograph of a lady driving a Bugatti. Very often you hear: “look at her”, “it is a lady”, or something similar. I think you know exactly what I mean.

Also look at this promotional video for this year’s revival of the Grimsthorpe Speed Trials. It is an event which will be held on the 26th of August 2018 for pre-193 cars and motorcycles. All vehicles will be tested three times up and down the sinuous 1/2 mile track from the start line by the lake gently climbing to the finish line beside the Grimsthorpe Castle. The peace of the red deer park is about to be shattered!

When you watch the video at first your classic car heart starts to beat faster. But then… you find out it is a lady driving this Bugatti! Isn`t that fantastic?!

Please comment below and let us know what pre-war cars are just ‘made’ for female drivers and why.

This particular Bugatti is a 1927 T35 and was owned by Malcolm Campbell who used it as his day to day car. It later on featured in "The Rakes Progress" starring Rex Harrison who drove the car. This is a wonderful original example of a 5/5 Bugatti and the double rear wheels are merely for affect and are not usually used.

Girl Power Rules! My wife Regie drives our veteran and vintages cars but she hasn’t stopped smiling since having the chance to drive Roy Roycroft’s famous New Zealand 35A Bugatti/Jaguar with Terry Roycroft. Worryingly Regie now has a model of the car in the bedroom!

Hello,
My wife Birgit is driving all our cars too. She loves to drive our Lagonda M45 Le Mans built 1935. She has no modern car for her own. Her car is a Volvo P1800S built 1963 or she drives our Aston Martin DB 2/4. And as Guy Mahy said before it is perfect to share the same passion. We do it like they do I drive in the morning while Birgit is reading the road book and in the afternoon we do it the other way around.

If madame or a young lady wants to drive car , she will need the autorisation of her man... Often men pretend cars are too difficult.
My wife drives cars from 1900 till 1960 and more recent of course aswell from tiny De Dion Bouton to heavy Lorraine Dietrich….only crancking of heavy stuff is for 'men only . It's just great fun to share a common passion and as a driver in the morning I shall not comment a mistake in her reading of the roadbook as in the afternoon she will sit in the drivers seat, and me at the reading ! Our two daughters are driving the cars too !

I have just watched the video that is also available on Facebook. One quick question: this is the first time that I see a Bugatti having two pairs of wheels at the rear. At first sight it looks like a 37 but what model is it please?
