Our recent quiz about the Zedel prompted Mike Tebbett -who owns this Type K Donnet- to tell us more about the history of the Zedel and later Donnet factories. At the turn of the previous century Zedel was a Swiss company. Because of draconian measures imposed on imports by the French Government in 1905, they cannily set up a factory just over the French border in Pontarlier. Quick growth precipitated a cash flow crisis. Suppliers were not paid and Samuel Graf, as biggest supplier, took over the Pontarlier factory in 1906. Car production continued up until and just into World War I.

I have recently bought a 1927 Donnet that was imported from France to South Africa in 1977. It was found in a barn in France and is still in its original condition except for the canvas roof that is missing. It was used as a plumber's vehicle. I want to restore it to its original condition but it is the only one in South Africa. I recuire assistance in the form of pictures especially on the construction of the convertable roof, the original colours and spare parts. Can you offer me any assistance?
