OK, so the organisers decided to make London to Brighton eligible for 'modern' cars up to 1906, instead of 1904. Big turmoil in the Empire of Tradition. But look at it this way. The London to Brighton Veteran Car Run is to commemorate the 1896 abolishment of the 4 mph speed limit 'The Red Flag Act'. So in fact all high-tech 1897-1904 machinery should be denied admission in the first place... An other argument against new regulation is that the event is not going to be a challenge for the 1905 & 1906 cars. Ever did a 6 hour drive in a 1906 Queen? (Guild of Automotive Restorers). We didn't, but believe us, it IS a challenge. On the other hand I have seen London to Brighton now once and I can assure you that there are 1904 cars hardly capable to go round the block(challenge). And there are 1904 cars like Mors with which you could do Peking to Paris whistling (no challenge). So what's the fuss?. (photo by editor)
