XL Longuemare carbie Mystery (upd.: Model B 'manual')

Eric McKaige is asking about this large Longuemare carburettor. The throat = 45mm.  Diameter of main body is 360 mm.
"I was wondering if anyone could tell me what they were fitted to and were they any good. I have something in the back of my brain that tells me they weren't the best  carburettors  in the world at the time but I'll stand corrected. It came with my 1907 Napier but S.F.Edge being S.F.Edge suggested that Napier should have their own brand of carburettor. As there are only a couple of 6 cylinder cars left in Australia, and that the other one goes and mine doesn't it was deemed to be a good idea to fit both cars with the same carburettor hence my lookout for a 42 HAZ Zenith that I have searched the world for only to find one less that 15kms away!!!
Anybody that can shed light on this rather large French carburettor I would be pleased to hear from them. There is a bit of a description in Lavergne's book "The Automobile its construction and management".

Well, there's a similar one listed at the moment for €1,300 and another one sold a while ago, so to the right person they're worth a lot of money. I have a spare 34mm version I must get around to selling, and I could do with a 26mm one in better condition than the one on my car.

This Longuemare type with smaller Diameter is fixed in a Renault "Typ C" from 1900 with De Dion engine I owned for years. I think it was original and not fixed later. The two Levers are for mixture control and engine speed. Not very precise but working.

Thank you for the information. Indeed the 360mm is a typo by me-should read 36mm. I think the Zenith will be the way to go .
Peter thanks once more. Not sure what I'll do with it? Interesting talking point.

It's a Longuemare Model B, which according to a Brown Brothers catalogue came in various sizes from 19mm to 56mm, the measurement being of the diameter of the inlet pipe. (By the way, 360mm diameter for the body must be a mistake!) I believe they were used on many different cars including, in the smaller sizes, on the Humberette and my own 1906 10-12hp Coventry Humber. No, they're not a very good carburettor unless you have a governed engine running at one fixed speed. There is no automatic mixture control, only manual, so I have to remember to enrich the mixture before I stop else the engine stalls.
