Marjolijn in the Standard Avon Special

This week`s Friday Lady Marjolijn is ready to go and waiting for her chauffeur. It is a beautiful day to go out in the Standard Avon Special. The now previous owner of the car, Piet Geirnaert, has been working on the car for more than thirty years to bring it (back) in this condition.

It is hard to imagine if you look at this picture, but... In 1975, the garage where the car was stored almost completely burned down and with that a large part of the car. The only things left were the Standard Little Twelve chassis, a stack of parts and a completely burned down ash wooden frame...

Piet heard from the tragedy and decided that this would be his new (long-term) project. In 1977, he drove three times up and down with a trailer behind his Daf 33 to pick up all the remaining parts. Piet began working on the project and years passed... In the meantime, he moved three times and with him the project.

He came in contact with a German who had an identical car. Various trips to Germany were made to measure (literally) every single part of the car and take pictures of this "example". All the experience and skills Piet had learned over the years as electrician and construction engineer were used to restore or recreate all parts of the Standard Avon. The amount of work that has been put in all the details is just unbelievable! Even the leather from the sofa in the living room was (in consultation) used, because it was exactly the right colour to go with the paint. It took Piet Geirnaert more than thirty years to restore this 6-cylinder Standard Avon Special Little Twelve.

But look at the result! A beautiful and elegant sports car with many miles ahead!
