Mystery Engine

Good evening,

I bought this old Daimler Engine a couple of weeks ago. I belive it is a marine Engine from the period 1900-1905. But I have very Little information about it. I wonder if there are possibilities to ask the readers for some help?

Thanks in advance

I only just came across these posts as I have recently been researching early Daimler engines. I actually have a four-cylinder Daimler boat engine which I believe dates back to around 1910. The engine has been identified as a Daimler type LS10254 and fortunately it is largely complete but not capable of being run in its current state until it has been restored.
Would anyone have any images of this engine please? So far I have only managed to see one which the Mercedes-Benz museum kindly sent to me.
Thank you.

Hello Stefan,
would you please send me some pictures of your engine.

Also your Email adress.

My dad has also collected something like your engine. I knew it could be Daimler , but no one could really tell. Well I didn´t really ask for it.

I would send you also some pics, so we could find out if we got the same stuff.
I dont have the Plate with name and engine Number .

It would be nice just to know what we have here in our place.

I´m looking forward to here from you.

Thank you very much for your input about the Engine. IT is correct that the carb is incorrect. Also the magneto should be a low tension magneto.

Question to Mr. L.W. van Limburg Stirum do you know which year the fire was? That could help us to understand the latest possible build year for the Engine.

Sorry to say but right now I have no intention to sell the Engine, but if I change my mind I will put an ad out on prewarcar.

Best regards
Stefan

Hi Stefan,
I would be interested in adding this engine to my collection.
Feel free to send me an email if you are considering parting with the engine.
All the best,
Wayne

Hi Stefan
A very nice early stationary engine , very similar to Aster
i feel your engine is 1903/4
Mag added later in my opinion
the yolk fitting holding valve caps early detail , very simular to my 1903 Brush engine

An early marine engine later adapted to utility use, tank with lubricating oil compartment and gasoline for starting, and hose fitting and a pressure regulator for gas (probably coalgas but will run on propane).
The Zenith carb is not original but a later replacement, originaly it would have had a Daimler carb too.
Little engines like these were used for all kinds of uses in rural areas around the turn of the century, to generate electricity, drive machinery in workshops etc.
The Berlin Mariënfelde factory opened in 1902 for the production of Marine engines and suffered a catastrofic fire a couple of years later.

I agree that this is a boat engine. Lucky you. Where did you find it. I am always looking for unusual DMG or Benz engines for my private museum. So if you ever want to sell let me know.
