The first journey around the world in a car was done by 26-year old Clärenore Stinnes, who was already considered Europe's most successful female racing driver. Clärenore said she had an urge to explore the great unknown, so on 25 May 1927 she started out from Frankfurt am Main in an Adler Standard 6 in the company of her future husband, photographer Carl-Axel Söderström, a support vehicle and two technicians. The rules stated that transfer kilometres did not count and that the milometer had to show a final mileage equivalent to the earth's circumference. Therefore she had to take a very circuitous route. After two years and one month the team arrived in Berlin, the Adler’s milometer showing a total of 46,758 kilometres. Later Clärenore Stinnes wrote a book about her adventure, “Im Auto durch zwei Welten” which is now a collector’s item. Taglicht Media -who kindly supplied the photos- is turning the book into a movie that is due out this year.
