New rules for advertising stopped! (April 1: thank you for your support!)

UPDATE: APRIL FOOLs . Thank you all for your warm response. It is great that so many out there feel connected with what we're doing. In the same way we feel connected to you out there working in thousands of work shops to preserve automotive history. We are a real community together and Yes! we must confess that this time it was a first of April set-up in a long tradition of PWC April Fool's editions. This does not take away the fact that there are many dangers for our hobby. Let's stand together and face the issues and open up new opportunities. Glad to know you are all awake !

Amsterdam based PreWarCar and PostWarClassic are facing difficult times. As per today Dutch government has put into effect a new set of rules for advertising media. One of these rules is that we may no longer allow wrecks in adverts (either due to accident or long time of non-use). We received notice to close down the pre-war section 'Barnfind classic cars for sale' and the post-war section 'Project classic cars for sale' within 5 business days.  The reasoning behind this ridiculous rule - primarily set up for much more modern vehicles - is safety and environment: wrecks should be scrapped so that especially these can no longer be restored and thus prevent future safety and pollution. Of course we do not agree with this bizarre rule that has been forced upon us without any form of consultation. This will seriously affect the existence, even survival, of our two websites, not to mention the hobby in general. Thus we need your help! Let us know you don't agree and send us your protest! We will collect them and offer them to the government.

This is the most hair-brained political decision I ever saw !
Did they consider:
-how many people get pleasure in just admiring our Vintage/veteran cars(not just ownwers.
- how many people are employed in the restoration business, and needless to say the revenue.
- how many old cars actually cause accidents?

We really appreciate the fantastic website; THANKS!
What politicians fail to understand is that the restoration of old/older cars is a remarkable form of recycling. The amount of energy required to make a car is 70% of the total energy consumed during the cars life time. By restoring vehicles there is potentially a real benefit to the planet and its inhabitants?
Let's hope they will make exceptions?

1 aprilgrap

In Frankrijk spreekt men van poisson d'avril.

I can see who's going to lose - that's particularly obvious - so it can be described only as a pernicious ruling and its implementation should be challenged immediately.

This includes your advertisements for barn finds and project cars, which are an integral part of the hobby.
We old car enthusiasts all derive immense pleasure from your websites, so it is a shame that your existence is threatened. A government rule banning the advertisement of automotive barn finds severely limits the continuation of finding and restoring a part of history. Preserving the past is a noble hobby and helps the economy; no matter what country you're from. My last 3 autos were 'barn finds'. In the past year I have spent over $300,000 USD restoring them. One of the three is one of just five remaining 1936 SS Jaguar Saloons which sat for 65 years in a barn. Now it is the finest in the world. Please tell me how I'm hurting the environment?

I feel that I must protest over these new advertising rules for the older cars.
If these rules are implemented then that could mean the end of the hobby of collecting our antique and classic cars, not to mention the closing down of businesses involved in the restoration of these historical automobiles.
The implications for the Auction houses, who with less automobiles for sale, could face closure, and price increases in the current supply of vehicles.
This will adversly affect the collector of the "Less collectible car", and will see the demise of lots of vehicles which show the Automobiles history.
These rules have not been thought through properly, obviously being aimed at the "Old Banger Brigade".
But anyone who knows the business of classic car ownership knows that these cars are restored, and looked after better than many of their modern counterparts, usually do less mileage per year, and puts business back into the Economy, through the trade .
100 years since the "Red Flag" was abolished, and these new rules will do nothing to alleviate the concerns of the "Classic and Vintage" motoring public for the inept, ill thought out policies of the Bureaucrats, and the Politicians who have to implement them.
