Ole Kristian Haugen of Norway almost dropped of his office chair last Tuesday. He wrote us: "The 'used Alfa' with the peculiar bumper shown on your web page today, is a 1931 6C 1750 GTC (Gran Turismo Compressore). The body is a Coupe by
Touring of Milan, which had been converted to a convertible. The body now
sits on my GTC chassis (!!!), back in coupe form. Chassis 101014824 was delivered on 1 September 1931 with a coupe body by Touring of Milan (so-called "Fugientem incurro diem", body no. 1151), to a man with an English name. In about 1948 it was in the USA and looked like this (photo courtesy of Eric Killorin, son of then owner). The rear bumper certainly is original! The front obviously should have the typical Touring tube-typebumper as well. Later owners chopped off the roof to make a drophead. (Edit.: after that the car was acquired by John McKiernan) In 1979 the car came to England. There the body was taken off, the chassis shortened and a new Zagato-style body fitted. In 1991 I bought the body to fit on my GTC chassis no 101014942, which had lost most of its body, which was also originally by Touring. (click photo to see: >>>the car as it looks today)
If anybody has details of the typical cylindrical Touring bumpers, I would be glad to hear from them! Since taking the photo "as now", I have added bumpers - made from photos only. When you have relevant info please write to Ole Kristian Haugen.
