A year before Lohner-Porsche: the hybrid Pieper !

Yesterday a press release came in about the forthcoming exposition of the hybrid petrol-electric Lohner-Porsche. It reads "the visionary Ferdinand Porsche entered an entirely new field of technology". Visionary yes, but at what was Ferdinand's vision targeted? This truly innovative technique was already published by The Autocar in the July 8th 1899 issue  and in the same year in 'La Locomotion Automobile'. It is always dangerous to claim a first in the automotive industry. As there was so much activity, talent and ingenuity around. Porsche claims to be the first with this brilliant concept. Probably expecting little protest from Pieper who went out of business in 1903...
