Pebble Beach controversy solved. (UPDATE: no C-25, no C-15 , maybe a C-24))

Update by Philippe Ladure (leading Voisin man)showing how hard it is to clearly identify a one off Voisin: "In conclusion (until visual examination of the car allows definitive identification), I would suggest that the car is probably a C24. Alternatively, the possibility must remain (however unlikely) that this car was assembled from elements of different models or on the basis of a prototype Voisin chassis." All the available sources agree that this roadster was created by Saliot around 1934. A leading Voisin specialist, Saliot bodied at least one other Voisin (a C28 cabriolet in the late 1930s). Although the car exemplifies everything Gabriel Voisin fought against in terms of aesthetics, conception and centres of pressure and gravity, this unique and remarkable model remains an exceptionally interesting car. Its condition and elegance do its owner credit, and its recent accolade is well deserved."

EARLIER TEXT: We received confirmation from Rick Carey -automotive historian, consultant and journalist in the US- who was in contact with the owner Sam Mann of last week's Pebble Beach 'Best of Show' winning Voisin. The car indeed is no C-25 but a C-15 Roadster by Établissement Saliot (click here to enlarge). So the question is settled. At the same time we think Pebble Beach is not only a Concours d'Elegance to show the world's most beautiful supercars. As it is about classic, vintage and antique cars it also has a responsibilty in historic respect. Not only to the event itself. Also to the worldwide audience. And to the owner of the car. And not in last instance to the team of engineers involved in the restoration. In this respect a correction -however small- must be possible. It is better for the credibility of the event, for the historical importance of the car and for all people involved when the car's identity is crystal clear. And happily now it is.
