Our good friend Mahmoud Ezzeldin from Egypte reports about a recent wings & wheels event in the region.

"This event was held to welcome the Vintage Air Rally as it passes through Egypt on its 'way'to Cape Town (what an adventure!). The Vintage Air Rally, is an oldtimer airplane event took off from Crete in Greece with some 20 participating Vintage Planes made between 1922 & 1939 , plus a few modern machines.

Classic cars came to the 6th October Airport on Sunday the 13th of November in the morning to welcome the vintage planes and get their photo taken of the classic cars and the vintage planes together on the actual airport's apron.

After welcoming the Vintage Air Rally, the pilots had a chance to ride in the classics from the 6th of October Airport to the Pyramids of Giza, where a press conference and cocktail reception was held.

The Pyramids of Giza also witnessed a feat that had not occurred in 80 years. The landing of a Pre-War Biplane at the pyramids plateau. In cooperation with the Avation Club of Egypt & Vintage Wheels Egypt.

Thank you Hans for your kind and encouraging words. Thanks to all the Egyptian vintage car owners who made it with their cars to welcome the Vintage Air Rally.
Would love to here more stories from your years in Egypt and if you have photos would be great aswell.
I once read an online article about a race between a British officer and gentleman who raced from Alexandria to Cairo in a 6C 1750 Alfa Romeo and a Type 35 Bugatti, however I cannot find that article online anymore..

What a great initiative - we should all welcome the enthusasm of our friend Mahmoud Ezzeldin and his Vintage Wheels Egypt to preserve the vintage car heritage in his country. I lived in Egypt for 4 years in my early teens in the early 1960s when there were still cars from the 1920s to be found driving around in the countryside, e.g. in Luxor. Most of them were Americans but in Cairo languished a Mercedes 540K ex King Farouk. In the past there have also been Bugattis, Hispanos and Isottas in Egypt, owned by the Egyptian nobility and gentry. One wonders if any of those are still around today?
