Ruby? Scap? Chapuis-Dornier? (Final-Final UPDATE I , II , III, IV: Hinstin-SUP !)

UPDATE IV: Made up by aggereement of the earlier writers Le Baron and J.P. Dauilliac: "...the Hinstin engine was a unique design for Hinstin - but made by Ruby as SUP did not have the possibility to make engines. It should not be confused with the production Rubies sold to other manufacturers!! "
UPDATE III by Chris Draper / Jean Pierre Daulliac, editor of the 'now no longer published' Album du Fanatique: "Engine seems to be a Hinstin-SUP unit (Société des Usines du Pâquis), cyclecar built by Jacques Hinstin, Citroën's friend and partner in the Kégresse affair. Found a photo of it in Automobilia Nov 1921 issue - page 578. Same front casing, side magneto, high mounted carb, long pushrods." Q.E.D. !

Update II by Chris 'Salmson' Draper:"Most of the Ruby engines I have seen I seem to recall had the carburettor at the back of the head mounted fore and aft - not on the side of the engine. I also recall seeing one engine which had a carburettor mounted as described at the front as well as the rear. I therefore do not think it is a Ruby." .... well, well, well. Nobody 'in town' with a Ruby under the bonnet?

Update I by Baron L.B. de M.: "Ruby! It is a reflex guess, carburettor on the left side ( Chapuis Dornier CS4's is on the right ), long pushrods non enclosed when SCAP's are protected ( as Chapuis Dornier are ). I would say 1920 Ruby, probably 900cc ( 5 cv ), but I am no Bible.... Ruby's gearboxes are three speeds ( up to 1938 ) when all Chapuis Dornier's and most SCAP's are four speeds."

Matthieu Gras sent us this engine unknown to him that came with a Sénechal chassis a friend bought recently. Please click the photo for a full view. Now we know that Sénechal used to come with Scap, Ruby or Chapuis-Dornier engines. But honestly we cannot keep them apart at first sight. Happily all you folks are out there to help Mathieu. Please advise what this little cyclecar engine can be. The exposed flywheel and valvegear are whispering 1918-ish , but who am I ? [email protected]
