Some cars have more extras and luxuries than others. Take for instance this Rolls-Royce 20HP: it was ordered in 1925 by The Maharaja of Bharatpur who commissioned the coach building company Windover to make the body. It took Windover a full three months to produce a body from polished aluminium
(rrab.com). The Maharaja also ordered a host of extras including a blue police light with the ruling families coat of arms etched into the glass and Stephen Grebel headlamps, especially shipped from Paris. There are many more options, but we love the little liberty bell which was used to shoo away the cows! As these animals are sacred it was considered disrespectful to hoot at them.
This is only one of the many stories that can be found in the book The History of Windovers, written by Jane Hutchinson, the daughter of one of the owners of Windover. (photos courtesy Jane Hutchinson) (RB)
