Snow digging after the Armistice Day Blizzard

Not much of a winter here in The Netherlands this year, not one flake of snow. So why not take a look at a winter of days gone by when the season was remarkable harsher?

1940 was one such year, particularly when you lived in the Midwest of the US. On the 11th of November – Armistice Day - things seemed all okay, warm even for the time of year. But then all of a sudden a nature occurrence took place that became later known as The Armistice Day Blizzard. It started totally unexpected in the afternoon, lasting to the next day, and overtaking Minnesota, Illinois, Wisconsin and Michigan with snow falling up to 27 inches and wind speeds of 50- to 80mph. It was the suddenness of the blizzard that resulted in the death of 154 people, almost a third of them having drowned in Lake Michigan when three freighters and two smaller boats sank under the weight of the snow.

We guess this Friday Lady was lucky enough to have stayed in her house, but she certainly had to dig to get that Coupe out of the snow on that ill-fated November day!
