Take a seat !

This is racing Argentinian twenties style. How about the 'hand carved' bucket seats of this well preserved Pampas Special (clic) . Max Goyarts reports from last Sunday's 'Feria': "The fourth Auto Classica de Argentina was held in the gardens of the prestigious Jockey Club of San Isidro. As spring starts in this hemisphere it can been seen as the kick- off to the racing and touring season. One remarkable piece that was on show was this 1919 homemade racing car with Overland engine, a very rough car which raced on local racing tracks in the early 20s. The steel skin is very thick and was probably made by somebody with not very much money as this is not something you would normally use for a racing car. This kind of sheetmetal is usually used out in the country for the water tanks on the big estates for breeding cattle, the front and air inlets on the sides might give it a performing look in the end. Click for a look at the and for the racy tail." One can smile about the simple technique that were used, but one can also dream away about a part of the world and a tiem when blacksmiths were the mechanics and cowboys were the pilots. Yet despite this crude machinery the love for the car and vintage racing formed the basis for todays succesful companies like Pur Sang Argentina and Reklus Arc.
