Sunday night we received an email from Mahmoud Ezzeldin who lives in Cairo, Egypt. He writes: “We are having some rough times in Egypt, but it is for a great bright future for everyone.” We’re sure these are hard times, Mahmoud, as we see the pictures of the people’s struggle on our TV-screens every day.
The photos attached were shot not too long before the recent happenings: “About three weeks ago I was working on the route survey of the upcoming London to Cape Town Rally, and during our stay in Aswan in Upper Egypt, I came across this interesting looking body and axle. I knew from the owner that it belonged to his grandfather. He was not sure of the make or model though. Could you kindly post the photo and start a mystery competition?”
Of course we’re glad to help Mahmoud, who wonders if any of the cars from early expeditions are still out there somewhere in Africa ?
It seem to be af Ford product, due to the rear axle, and late 1930´ies, because of the hydraulic brake cylinder.
It looks like af V8 - 85HP - ca 1938, or it could be a Lincoln Zephyr
Best regards
