The Belsize works... last words

 

Earlier we published about quiz #443. Last week we also gave the answer to the quiz. The car we were looking for was a 1920 Belsize Fifteen. The fun thing about these quizzes is, that our loyal readers are always willing to share....

The Imperia factory in Liege, Belgium is still standing. I saw a documentary about it some time ago. It's quite special because it is one of only two car manifacturers that had a test track on the roof of the factory, the other one being the more famous and still existing Fiat. During the war workers who were forced to work for the nazi's would sound the air raid alarm as often as possible to slow down the production of armoured cars for the nazi's.

The A. Harper, Sons & Bean's head office is still in existence in Hall Street, Dudley. The stone lettering above the door seen here... https://tinyurl.com/kjhrcxw ... was altered circa 1926 when the company became 'Bean Cars Ltd'. Here it is today... https://tinyurl.com/k7jya7v . You can still find in Hersham the buildings of the original ABC Motors and, of course, HWM at Walton-on-Thames.

I doubt very much that both the building on the left hand side of the picture and the one two along from that would date from when Belsize cars were built. Both those building are of 1950's period construction.
