The charms of Austin Seven Racing

Only recently a marvel in black & white was handed over to us by Edward Way. The title reads: 'Austin Seven Racing History' (The Cars and Those Who Drove Them 1922-1939). The book was written years ago by a remarkable lady - Beatrice Canning Brown - who has spent decades researching the subject. The book itself is as simple and effective as the Austin Seven concept itself. The racing years 1922 through '39 being the chapters. The events dates - most weekends - are the paragraphs, starting at the Colmore Cup Trial of 24 February 1923 and closing at Prescott, Saturday August 26, 1939. All events in between are short business style records of the events and any known data. Even the German Dixie results including the Monte Carlo are there. It reads with a speed like lapping Brooklands with the 750 CC Yellow Canary (click). About the written content we don't want to tell too much. Except that we really-really liked the understatement at the start of the paragraph about September 24, Brooklands 1927, good for laughing out loud (in our case). ...as a critic we should say something nasty as well. OK, here it is: we are not preplexed by the cover photo. But better shrug our shoulders over the cover and get the surprises inside, then the other way round. Go get the book ! (click).
