The forgotten ZF pre-selector box

It seems this is pre- selector week. The day before yesterday we showed  the veteran 1904 Wilson-Picher . Yesterday two(!) ENV preselector boxes came for sale in the parts section. And today we have the honour to present you the pre-selector Soden gearbox as manufactured by ZF from Germany. The issue came up due to the recent restoration of this rare pre-selector gearbox by Oldtimer Rehberger for a BAW(related to Schuricht..). The selector mounted on the dash. So far only three ZF preselector gearbox are known to have survived. One model is owned by ZF in Friedrichshafen and one is in the Deutches Museum in München. The principle is based in the Wilson patent and Cotal, but the technical realisation is somewhat different. If you like to go into detail, here's a great opportunity to brush up your technical German under 'Read More'. Alternatively a view under the inspection lid may be more instructive... . The ZF preselector came in its day in four sizes and was used on light cars like the BAW, but even on trucks. If you like to learn more, be sure to contact Oldtimer Rehberger.

cotal gearboxes are as I know not preselector-boxes, they are directselector-boxes (as today the DSG-Getriebe).If you put the very short switch in the next gear, the electromagnet put automatically the next gear in without any clutch.
