The Gordon Bennett Reliability Trials (Ireland)

Press release

The“Historic Racing Car Association” (HRCA) of Ireland recently formed a subcommittee tasked with finding a way of raising awareness regarding the historical importance of the 1903 Gordon Bennett Race.

The eventual decision was to run an event taking every opportunity to inform those attending about the race and its organisation. We have attempted to include something for everyone. Titled The Gordon Bennett Reliability Trials it also pays homage to the reliability trials that were held at the start of the 20thcentury. This is an event which  welcomes any type of pre 1940vehicle to enter. Those wishing to enjoy a quiet day with minimal driving can nominate to enter a shorter distance, they will find plenty of information about interesting places to visit in the area. For those up for a challenge they will be able to nominate distancesup to the 325mile original race distance. All entrants will receive a commemorative brass plaque and only those successfully completing their nominated distance will receive an award. In addition in anattempt to encourage younger people to participate we are allowing any number of drivers per car. When entering you will be asked to nominate the distance you would hope to complete, it is accepted that conditions/circumstances may change and the distance and number of drivers must be confirmed the 6.00pm evening before the start.

The event is being supported by the Shackleton Museum in Athy which will be putting on a special exhibition of 1903 race memorabilia and newspaper and magazine articles from the period. Talks about the 1903 race will also be given.

Entries will be limited to 100 cars. For more information please visit - hrca.ie
