The Height of Chic (UPDATE II: not Chapron)

This photo portraits exactly what we were talking about in our recent article on pre-war European Elegance: a fabulous automobile; an elegant lady and spectacular surroundings. Madame Arpels (indeed the famous French jeweler name) and her 1937 Delage D8-120 with a body created by de Villars at the Grand Prix d'Honneur de l'Auto in 1937. What more can we say? (photo collection Marc Fellman)

Update II by Daniel Herrero: "This is certainly not a Chapron body. I compared with several Chapron bodied Delage D8-120 and several details do not correspond to the Chapron styles cars: above all, every Delage wings of Chapron coachbuilder show a small line graved in the metal going along the sides of the wings. The car pictured does not have it. Also the shape of the wings are different, closer to the wheels and as well the down shape of the door is not so curved on all of the Chapron bodied cars. The De Villar coachbuilder is confirmed in the Delage book (to recommend!) of D.Cabart and C. Rouxel where there is a picture of this car on age 313, quite the same as the Marc photo but with a slightly different angle which allows to see the coachbuilder plate just behind the front wing, plate which is surely not the square ones of Chapron. The legend of the photo confirm also the De Villar body."
Update I by Marc Fellman who has send us this photo: "Although the back side of the photo identifies the Delage as having a body by de Villars it actually looks to me as if it might be Chapron. I would be interested to hear if anyone else queries."
