The Italian Buick mystery

Recently we were shown a Buick brochure that was published in Italy. So far, so good, but the models shown had us confused. The sedan looks to be a 1920s model, but apart from the Buick logo, it's one we have never seen before. The pointed radiator and sharp looking bodywork is something we have never seen before on a Buick. Apart from the sedan there's also a frontal picture of what seems to be a roadster, however the brochure doesn't mention any dates, nor manufacturer of the coachwork. We know that Buick had a Spanish connection with the Abadal-Buick, but we have never heard of an Italian connection. Who can tell us more about these Italian Buicks?

I have no idea of the coachbuilder; however, it seems most unusual in the most Buicks exported from the USA for European coachbuilders were shipped as achassis with a cowl, front fenders, and hood, radiator. This one, seems to be just built on a Buick chassis and engine. I am trying to compile a list of all Buick coaches from the 20s through the 40s, so I will try to monitor this but would also appreciate anything someone has to add to this.

Thank you

For a short time this 'razor edge' style was particularly popular in Italy. The Tipo 20 Diatto is pictured in 'Marche Italiane Scomparse'- a somewhat obscure but useful Italian book published in 1972 (perhaps Barry Stalker and I have the only two copies?!). Another Italian car of similar appearance was the SPA. However the frontal view of the sports job does seem to display a conventional Buick badge: probably there was some form of licence agreement, but if so I cannot find a reference to it.

The Elliot type front axle/king pin set up looks very Buick. But the radiator is pretty certainly Italian with perhaps a Buick badge.

The lack of front brakes says no later than 1923.
