When famous actor James Cagney accepted the leading role in the 1933 Hollywood movie, he could never have dreamed that his Auburn V12 Salon Cabriolet would get more credits than he. In fact the car is featured in so many scenes that it appears to be the real star. We’re not sure if James Cagney did own the Auburn. If so, he could have loaned it to Warner Bros., although it’s also possible that the Studios purchased it directly from Auburn. We will never know as all factory records relating to customer delivery of the 12-cylinder Auburns were destroyed many years ago. Only four of the Model 1250 Cabriolets were produced and only this one was equipped with a rear-mounted spare. It will be auctioned by Worldwide Auctioneers at Auburn, Indiana on August 30th. Which seems only fitting as the city also plays host to the well-known Auburn Cord Duesenberg Festival. (photo courtesy WWG)
