The Mysterious Remains (UPDATE Buick)

It’s a good practice to always be on the alert. Especially when your neighbour is about to throw away some junk. That’s just what Claes Rocklin from Sweden did. His neighbour was going to transport some old car parts to the junkyard when he happened to come by. To be true this happened more than forty years ago, but Claes was quick to rescue the parts and has stored them indoors ever since. The problem is that Claes doesn’t know what car the parts came from and his neighbour didn’t know either. Most of the parts are in rather good shape. Just take a look at the right front fender, the chassis, the dashboard and the front spring bracket that has partnumber 990 371 stamped on it. Apart from these Claes also saved the rear fenders, a nickel plated handbrake lever and some top irons. It all looks like an American car from the mid twenties. We bet you can help. UPDATE by Dick Trenk: “I think it is the remains of a 1921 Buick open car. This means model 21- 44,45 or 49 which are the open models. The curved windscreen glass and frame stanchions match those used by Buick in that one year and the dash panel looks to be about right. The spring hanger part number is of no use. The car can be best identified via the frame number since the engine appears missing. Look at the left rear frame near the fuel tank where a small brass plate should be found. The number is repeated on the outside of the left front frame member. Numbers range between 687795 to 760555 for 1921 models.”
