The Passage of Flowers

short story inspired by the last of 60 yearly flower parades from Aalsmeer, Holland two weeks back:

"I sit at my desk, staring…trying to hold back the tears, hoping not to startle the dog, the cat, or the wife should I suddenly release the sounds trapped in my throat. What, you may ask, has wrought such emotion? Well, dear readers, since I have sufficiently bolstered myself with Gin, I shall endeavor to relate the cause. The matter is quite simple, actually. After 60 years, that showcase of Dutch floriculture, that 3 day spectacle that lifted the spirits of many an otherwise sad sod like myself, that testament to the human ability to create whimsy for the shear joy of it…yes, the Aalsmeer Flower Parade has completed it’s final circuit (see gallery).
