The rarest of the rare

On the day before the famed Meadow Brook Concours d’Elegance, RM will hold their Vintage Motor Car Auction. As always there is an impressive line-up of automobiles, but the one that immediately caught our fancy was this 1938 Packard Twelve Laundaulet Touring Cabriolet. The body was designed by Hermann Brunn from Buffalo and was built in minuscule numbers in 1938 and 1939, fewer than ten per year on Lincoln and Packard chassis. A hallmark of the Touring Cabriolet was the pair of small clerestory windows above the windshield. This V12-engined Packard has been stored for many years with the intention to restore it, but that never happened. Too bad, because this kind of Packard is the rarest of the rare. Take your chance with Lot 293! (photos courtesy RM auctions). (RB)
