The Skinnie Moore Mystery (Upd. One of four original Super Six racers)

Suppose you want to go racing, we think the stately Hudson isn't the first car that springs to mind. Yet there have been several racing drivers who tried their luck building a special around the powerful straight eight and Hudson even competed at Indy. But some drivers tried hard, yet remained in the shadows. Like the driver in this picture that was taken in the early 1930s. According to the text that came with the photo his name is I.H. "Skinnie" Moore and that the location is Northfork in Virginia, USA. We would very much like to know more about both Skinnie and his Hudson. Does anyone remember him and can tell us about his life's story?

I. H. "Skinny Moore" was my Great Great Grand Father. I have this picture at my home. I do not know much about him or his driving as my father is the only living relative as his parents have both pasted. I would love to know more about him myself. All I do know is that he was born 2-19-1901 in Sowers, VA and died 11-1-1961 in Christiansburg, Va. Please contact me by email at [email protected] if you find anything else. Thank you!

This is definately one of the 4 Super Six works racers produced by Hudson in 1917. Although the photo is from a relatively low angle, I am equally sure that the tail is original and correct for these cars.
One car survives in the Transport Museum of South Korea - short video clip on YouTube, just type in Hudson Super Six.
I am near completion of an EXACT replica, which will be competing in the UK next year.

Agree, the car appears likely to be an early Super Six from the late teens.

I meant 1930 for the first Hudson eight. The radiator on this car looks like that on Ralph Mulford's 1917 Super Six team car, although the tail differs (Other team drivers, Ira Vail, Billy Taylor and A.H. Patterson). There were quite a few of these racers built in 1916 and 1917, and many continued to compete through the 1920s. I haven't yet turned up a reference to Skinnie Moore, however.

I don't think Skinnie's Hudson is an eight. The hood isn't long enough and anyway Hudson's first eight came in 19330. There were factory teams with the Super Six circa 1917, though.
