The 'luggage cart' Mystery (Upd. 1924/25 Jewett)

If you look well you discover a car behind this pile of luggage. Mel Abrahams from Australia sends a lovely but well-torn photo for identification. All he knows is that it was shot in South Africa. So we’ll just have to guess where this family of travellers is heading to, as we can’t read the labels on the suitcases. But they are about to embark on a difficult pioneering trip, so much is clear. Any ideas what the make of this automobile is? The radiator section is probably the best give away.

Looks too big for a Rugby, definately not a Buick or a Chrysler, I'd favour Jewett.

As the picture was taken in South Africa and the car is RHD, I'm almost certain it's a 1924/27 Rugby, Durant Motors export model. Durant's line of smaller cars was called Star, but as a car with that name existed in England, Rugby was chosen for cars exported to Britain and Commonwealth. All the big American auto makers had factories in Canada to export tax free to all Commonwealth Countries, the Durant plant was in Toronto.
