Oh, I wish I was born 100 or maybe 50 years ago. And then preferably in a country like Italy, or even better on an island like Sicily (Targa Florio route). I could have seen the the truly great drivers and the cars that together made up the fundamentals of what motor racing is all about. Read the memories of Sicilian Mario Grifasi. See the young Enzo Ferrari in his 1920 Alfa Romeo. Why we show this fifties/sixties photo of an Isotta Fraschini? As a tribute to one of the Italian makes that won in the very early years. Not the first of 1906. That was an Itala. Isotta won in 1908, but not with this 'modern' machinery. More like the 1908 type FE that's for sale through these pages. By the way the the capitals 'IF' were also in the text of last Saturday's competition. And yes, that of course was an Isotta Fraschini as well... (photo collection editor)
