The (VIC?)TOR GARAGE mystery. (Upd. Indian Power Plus + 1918-19 Studebaker Light Four )

Jack Gyomar sends this great photo postcard form Australia. It took the royal mail a long time to get the cars here. It must be is middle of winter right now.  Jak writes: I believe that the photo was taken in New South Wales or Victoria. Maybe the name of the place  is Windsor Garage (we doubt this as the first visible letter seems a T, not an S ; VICTOR maybe?).  The info written on the back may help."  Well I am sure that will help, but in our view the motorcyclew and thne car are of more interest. Is that the bike that would evolve into the Fastest Indian of the World? Probably too early a model for that.
The car with brass headlights is around 1914 we guess. US made, but then what? Note of interest:  it's as if the sign is showing the same model of car... Could it be a Victor or Victor Page? Over to you experts.

editor's update: discussion about differences in countries is closed; remarks about the car will be published

I think Mark has it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Studebakerlightfour.jpg

If late 1917 or 1918, the body would certainly be locally built because on August 10, 1917, the Australian government banned the import of car bodies. The fenders/wings/mudguards and the bonnet/hood were deemed part of the chassis, and would be 'genuine' Studebaker.

On second thoughts I think the Australian car with the Indian motorcycle is a 1918-19 Studebaker Light Four (Model SH) – even though the radiator is unclear, other features match.

It looks like a veteran" Case to me .I inspected two Case tourers in a ramshackle farm shed in country NSW in 1959.One had Gase lamps and one electric. They were big Tourers. The w/screen pillars looked like this cars.

Can we get a closeup of the radiator area of the car? I think the car is American and from the 1916-1917 era. There must be a clue in the hubcaps as well. I don't think it is Studebaker or Oldsmobile.

After further talking to the owner of the postcard, Widgeegoria ties in as his Uncle came from Cunnamulla and the postcard was in his possession.
The Uncle had been in the Australian Light horse regiment during WW1 & was shearer based in Cunnamulla. However no one in the photo is his Uncle.
The motorcycle identification much appreciated. The car radiator badge looks Studebakerish, however the shoulders on the radiator don't fit.

In those days people still relied on kerosene and gas lamps. Electric lamps were available at extra costs

The wheels have 7 clamps holding on rim, not an economical car like a Chevrolet usually with 4. Look at rounded top to radiator. Hubcaps look Olds type, maybe 4 cyl Olds?

Please - where is the ANZAC spirit- we are all very close and don't need to argue.
The car could be an Australian (Holden) bodied Chevrolet from the 20's - strangely fitted with early headlamps.

Tony, Melbourne.
The World's Fastest Indian came from New Zealand, not Australia. We were first up Mt Everest too.
Every time I open my gob in the Northern Hemisphere they say 'your from Australia' when you say no, New Zealand they say 'same thing'. Bad [or lack of] education.

editor: I knowe, I am guilty of the same, but it is lack of imagination. From far away seen New Zealand and Australia, is a big and a small island close together in some far away sea. Only after you have been there you understand.

The bike on the left is almost certain a 1916 Indian Powerplus. The fastest Indian in the world however was based upon the Indian Scout which was introduced in 1920 and was a downsized Powerplus displacements (1000cc versus 600cc)

I googled the name on the back and the closest I can find is Widgeegoara Creek. It is in western Queensland half way between Lightning Ridge & Cunnamulla.
I think the car looks tooo modern to have brass lights. They look shiny and new and very out of place compared to the rest of the car.
The motorcycle appears to be a V twin. Can someone enlarge the petrol tank? It may have the name on it.

Cheers,
Manuel in Oz

That sign seems to end between the two men standing, you can just see the bottom edge of it so I would guess it reads 'Motor Garage'.
