The Vintage Sports-Car Club's Champagne Rally

The inaugural Champagne Rally, took place under the new umbrella of Rally Revival, with the Vintage Sports-Car Club welcoming both new and returning Rally Competitors to Wyck Hill House Hotel & Spa, Stow-on-the-Wold on Saturday 28 & Sunday 29 April.

Saturday morning proved to be an enormous success with the programme of presentations covering all aspects of Rallying; including cockpit management, the division of duties between driver and navigator, the preparation of cars, a guide to map references, features and timings. Competitors were furiously taking down notes, listening intently and asking questions to ensure they had all the extra information they could gain from the VSCC Rally ‘experts’.

Saturday afternoon saw the competitors enjoying a wonderful amble around the local roads of Gloucestershire, successfully applying the skills learnt in the morning presentations. A bustling drinks reception was then enjoyed by the entrants who passed on tips and experiences that they had learnt throughout the day, before retreating to the restaurant for a fabulous three course Dinner followed by an enthralling talk given by Mac Hulbert on his early Vintage motoring experiences.

Bushy tailed, maps poised and routes planned the entrants left the Hotel on Sunday morning and headed out on the Rally which covered over forty miles of the beautiful Cotswold country. With the new skills provided by the VSCC’s Rally ‘experts’ from the Saturday morning presentations, the competitors thrived and the Rally proved to be very close.

After a well-earned lunch the weekend was wrapped up with presentations of awards, notably in his Peter Godwin in his 1930 Alfa Romeo with his navigator Dorinda Godwin who had the lowest score.

The Champagne Rally proved to be a very successful two day Event, with the VSCC’s Non Speed Secrtary, Andrew Tarring commenting “The combination of a sumptuous Hotel in the Cotswold's, expert guidance and a great selection of cars made for a wonderful social weekend, with entrants either refreshing their Rally knowledge or starting from scratch which will hopefully enthuse people to come and join us at one of our Rallies”. Perter Garland, Champagne Rally entrant also commented, "As an experienced Triallist, it was great to try out a different type of Event, both my wife and I really enjoyed the Rally, the teaching sessions and the social side were excellent.".
