The weirdest Amilcar ever

Yes, the car on the main picture is an Amilcar, we haven't gone mad. Specifically this vehicle was born as a regular 1920s C4, probably wearing a sporting body. Later, in the 1950s it was converted into this nice "Giardinetta", with the particular purpose of being a beach car. And despite its italian appearance, this body was handmade by an amateur body maker called Francisco Ejarque, who owned his own workshop in Barcelona and later produced other very original bodies, always on his daily driver cars. The discovery of this truly unusual Amilcar was made by Spanish automotive Historian Javier Rucabado, in whose blog you can see the other creations of this little workshop.  The rebodied Amilcar received "La Monda" as name, and although being the first creation of Ejarque the outcome seems of a very good overall quality. We suppose that the engine had to be relocated to the front, so the mechanic work should be also hard. Unfortunately the car dissapeared many years ago and this sole photo has been preserved. And yes, probably was one of the very last Amilcar bodied as a "modern" car and not with collector purposes.

I think and hope that the engineshop here in Holland who did the work on my CGSs engine, would know their Bugatti and Amilcar stuff. Can't imagine that they would screw things up with wrong internals.

My engine just seized after not even a 1000 miles after a rebuild. A cracked cast-iron engineblock has little to do with a proper set up; poor engine design has more to do with it. And these engines aren't very strong it's common knowledge Joris...even if you are a proud owner of such a car :-)

editor: a seized Amilcar engine happens often when too modern pistons and too modern clearances are used. A cracked engine block is a sad story indeed; just wondering how well this was inspected during the rebuild. Often this is visible in an early stage.

I think you guys are being unduly harsh. For a first-time effort, La Monda is creatively designed and, at least judging from the photo, well executed. One of the great things about Prewarcar and Postwarclassic is that they broaden our horizons by showing us vehicles we wouldn't otherwise know about. Keep them coming!

On the V.S.C.C. Forum there is a section titled 'Gallery of Horrors'. Surely a prime candidate!

A joke on wheels surely. The engine would have a hard time with such a heavy body. And even a CGSs unit would be killed off quickly :-)

editor: soem people own their Amilcar so short, that they never had the time to set it up properly...

I had to look at my diary to make sure the date was not April 1st.
