Two lucky winners enjoy the Brighton Run with the Veteran Car Club

On November 3rd two new Associate Members of the Veteran Car Club of Great Britain (V.C.C.) enjoyed a memorable ride on the world-famous London to Brighton Veteran Car Run—the world’s oldest and most celebrated motoring event. As an initiative to attract new blood to the Club, all recent new Associate Members aged 18 and over were automatically entered into a prize draw to win a passenger ride aboard the V.C.C.’s 1902 twin-cylinder 10hp Wolseley. The two winners were Andy Bye and Paul Samrah and they both had a wonderful time on this year’s capital-to-coast celebration of the emancipation of motoring.

“Thank you so much for such an enjoyable run yesterday—it was wonderful,” enthused Samrah. “To be selected in the draw was extraordinary, but to actually experience the Run, and feel the buzz of excitement and apprehension from 6.00 a.m. and throughout the day, was something else.”

The scheme has proved so successful that the V.C.C. will again offer this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to win a passenger seat on next year’s London to Brighton Veteran Car Run. Any person aged 18 or over who joins the club as an Associate Member after September 1st, 2024, will be entered into the prize ballot, to be drawn on the September 1st, 2025.

The seats once again are offered on the Wolseley, a well-known car, formerly owned by the renowned motoring journalist and author W. Worby Beaumont (joint editor of The Engineer newspaper for 10 years). The Wolseley was also recently featured on the BBC programme Killing Sherlock: Lucy Worsley on the Case of Conan Doyle. Should the winner (or winners) be unable to take up the offer, a new draw will be held. The winners will be responsible for getting themselves to the start in Hyde Park and away from the finish on Madeira Drive. While every effort will be made to start the Run and drive the Wolseley to the finish, this cannot be completely guaranteed given the car is more than 120 years old.
