We received several notes of readers who took out their classic for a valentine trip. Ranging from John Layzell who took his 1925 Alvis 12/50 to the British Car Show at Boca Raton in Florida, to Paul Wilson who took out his Lamborghini Miura, as his Amilcar is not in full fettle yet. We feel sorry for Paul he had to take the slower and cramped car, but alas he is on wheels at least.
The above photo is the last new year's card that came in. Thank you Monsieur Lebaron ! It must have been shot at quite another time of year. First to draw our attention is the twenties beauty with fatal expression on her face. But what the about the car? Like the driver, the elegant roadster is far from new. Allthough we see some US characteristics, we still think it is of European origin. Do we see Marchal headlights (click) ? Also the radiator with the Motometer turned sideways for better streamlining is characteristic. But what is it?
UPDATE IV Marc Fellman claims -and the editor agrees- : "My vote would be Rolland Pilain as the radiator emblem (click) seems to be circular ala RP rather than the wings of a Voisin."
UPDATE III by James Holland:"Could it be a Rolland Pilain?" In the same e-mail batch George Cassidy expresses doubts if the lady on board is indeed a girl. Editor: "Well, George, to be honest we have our doubts as well, but we have little to go one to proove the opposite..."
UPDATE II by Thierry 'Voisin' Auffret:"I saw your site this morning (as every morning...), but I didn't think a minute this car could be a Voisin. And the more I look at this photo, the more I think it is something else...."
UPDATEs came in form Roger Bowers, Martin Flanagan, Don Risen and Peter Ransom who all agree on Voisin. Martin says it is a 1923. Don says 1927. Who will fill in the details? Could the coachwork be Dubost ?
