When is a barnfind a barnfind? A car lost for decades and then turning up in an abandoned shed? Or is it also a one-family-owned, never-restored, time-warp automobile that that has led a sheltered life in a heated garage? We don't know the answer, but we are always glad to see when these kind of automobiles turn up and see the light of day again. Take this magnificent 1928 supercharged Mercedes S for instance... painted in dark battleship grey, never restored, even retaining its original blue leather upholstery. Parked in the same garage since the 1930's, and laid up since the 1950's, its unworn 1928 logbook telling the story of ownership within the same family. This great looking car will be offered for sale by Bonhams at the Goodwood Revival Meeting on 15th September 2012. Bonhams currently holds the auction record for any Mercedes 'S' series with the 1929 Mercedes-Benz 710 sold in 2004 for £4.18m. Barnfind or not, we are very curious to see how this auction will go. And we only hope that whoever the lucky buyer will be, he or she will never, ever think of restoring this one!
Update by editor: Check the press release by Bonhams announcing that this S-Type went for a cool 2.8 million pounds!
Model SSK and S any differences, or one and the same?
