Weird Wednesday: One to make your hair curl (UPDATE: Antoine Cierplikowski)

At a time when Le Corbusier was "hot", a coiffeur called Antoine ordered this special car. It’s a Panhard Levassor 10cv (?) "Cubiste" pictured on the 1923 Paris motor show. Others have made radical designs, Voisin for instance, but this is cubism to the max to the max. The Panhard was bodied by a French firm called Maleval & Vacher, of whom we know very little, but they seem to have made horse-drawn carriages as well. The company also bodied a 1909 Delahaye type 32, but that one was far more traditionally styled. Therefore many questions remain. Who was coiffeur Antoine? Could the hairdresser have been associated with fashion designers like Gabrielle "Coco" Channel and Jean Patou? Did his haircuts look like his car? And -more important- what happened to the Panhard? Who can shed more light on the matter? Contact us (text & photo: Bart Oosterling)

Update by Eugene Abbondelo who suspects that it could have been "...Antoine Cierplikowski, born Dec. 24, 1884, Sieradz, Poland; died July 5, 1976; naturalized French citizen; hairdresser in France and US. A number of biographies have been written about him." (Editor: we found his picture on flickr)
