What about the alternative MM's ? UPDATE I & II

May is Indy month for the US, but for Europe May is Mille Miglia month. Everybody knows, everybody goes...eh well... er... we would love to go. Yet we have a thousand excuses not to go. The only one we are going to believe is that the MM is fully booked. Maybe already a year before. Officially maybe not, but in reality - Yes. So what happens then? Alternatives come up. Some poor, some superb. Rumour goes that the two day alternative starting from Bassano (not Bolzano) is the best, maybe even better than the original replica. It is highly popular with all kinds of pre 1960 barchetta's and cars like the one pictured above. here we see a highly confident Antonio Masperi in 1925 leaving with his OM 469 from the circuit of Cremona, the last big stop before the finish in Brescia. QUESTION of Rob Pennington:"If this a 469 the exhaust seems to be coming out of the wrong side - is it a Superba. I though that the MM was for sports cars, can you ask you readers to explain?" Write to [email protected] when you know more about Masperi's achievements and more about the alternative Mille Miglia's.

UPDATE I by Hans 'Italparts' van Ingen Schenau. 20-22 Juni 2003
Le Mitiche sport a Bassano
See for details the Event in the left evensts column.

UPDATE II from several authors (AtlasF1.com), claiming it is probably a win in the 1500 cc class, Cremona 1923.

UPDATE III (by Gabriele Chiesa of the Negri Foundation, Brescia): "Brescia has an ancient tradition in car racing. The first race was run in 1899 on the circuit of Brescia-Mantova-Cremona-Brescia. The races of the "Motorcar Week" started from 1907. The first "Gran Premio d'Italia" was run on the Montichiari Circuit in 1921 (first circuit in Italy built "on purpose" for car racing). Circuito del Garda (1921...). The photo came from a photo frame of a film taken during a race of "Circuito di Cremona" 1925." (photo courtesy Negri Foundation, Brescia)
