This grand old photograph has been in our files for we cannot remember how long, so it was about time to see it being used here. What do we see? We see a lady at Brooklands in the heydays of ‘the right crowd’. And what a female swashbuckler she looks like!
Who she is? Well, according to the legend this is the great Marjorie Eccles. Wife of MG K3 racer (at Le Mans - 4th overall in 1934) Roy Eccles and one of the Brooklands Belles not afraid to fly her racing car over the track herself. She supposedly did well in a Rapier, which was supercharged and it is believed to be the car seen here in 1936. That does look like a supercharger peaking from under the bonnet, doesn't it? And the mechanic may even well be working on it.
But as we all know racing is also waiting. So what does a lady do in between races? Well, how about some knitting, under the pleasure of a smoke? Swashbuckler and all that - she’s a lady after all.
