What is it? Quiz #383

Here's a fine family touring photo, shot in eastern Europe, probably late twenties. A chauffeur plus two well to do couples. In the background a chinese style (?) porch.   This is a slightly different quiz, as we don't know what car we are proposing!  So in this case you know as much - or as little - as we know. But this produces an extra challenge, you need to tell us what it is and also deliver proof of what you claim.

Over to you. Tell us all about the exact car depicted, but limit yourself to the max of 100 words. We want the name and model designation of the car with any - trivial - extra information being valued highly. But before writing down your response, be sure to read the Rules under Read More and start looking, looking, looking. This may be your chance to win the coveted PreWarCar T-shirt.

Source of photo and results will be published next Saturday, November 22.

This answer is only meant in case no one would guess, which however seems rather improbable to me! The car is (of course) a Buick, the model a Master Six of 1925 or 1926.

The car in question is positively a Buick Tourer, probably circa 1923/24. How am I so sure? I have strikingly similar period picture shot in India that shows more detail - though I am unable to upload attachments here.

1924 Buick Model 24-49X touring, export model, Master 6, with 255 cu.in. (4.1 liter), 70 BHP engine, mounted on a 128” wheelbase. Standard features for this export version included wind wings, built-in trunk rack, all nickel headlights and cowl lights, windshield visor, and wire wheels. 885 were made of this model. This was the first year for 4-wheel brakes for Buick. The picture appears to include the future King Carol II, and Crown Princess Elena of Romania.

1925 Buick Master Six Touring 7-Passenger Model 25-X49, 756 built for export only; sidemount tire has been rear mounted (note the almost hidden sidemount well); the standard built-in trunk rack is seen; balloon tires (6.00 X 22) were a first-time option; wire wheels were only standard on this model; the step plates shown were different in 1924; in 1926 Buick exported only a chassis version (26-X49); other models used a center mounted tail light; the covered top, seat upholstery, steering wheel, position of the front seat, head & side lights, hood louvers, and side trim all match Buick photos

The info below is not part of my answer:
1. One win (plus two Christmas wins)
2. Sources
a. Seventy years of Buick, George H. Dammann, page 92 for this model, but all years from 1923 - 1927 were reviewed
b. The Buick, A Complete History, Automobile Quarterly
c. AACA Forums
3. The first two sources list the model differently: Dammann calls it a 25-49-X while AQ calls it a 25-X49, but both show the exact same production figure
4. Several of the 1924 model (24-X49) were used by the Prince of Wales, and his party, while opening a dry dock facility in Southampton

Quiz # 383
I think this car is a Buick Master six 1927.Of course these cars had usually wooden wheels , but as it is probably an export model the wheels could have been changed ?

Hi, I believe this is a 1925-7 Buick Master touring car. It seems to be the 128" wb 7 passenger model with 255 ci 6 cylinder engine. I think 4 wheel drum brakes are evident. The clues are the scalloped radiator shell/hood. There is a double lip to the side skirts, and an impression to the top of the fenders. The nickel trim rings to front and rear lights and cowl lights are present. The hood latches are tall and close to the last louver. Some of these have a double bumper as this does. Lastly the bottom of the windshield stantion has a slight curve. I'm a previous 1x winner. Regards, Dan.

26-27 Buick Master 6 sport tourer. The drum shaped cowl lights, dual beltline, LHD and Packard like radiator are clues. This seems to be the longer 128" wheelbase. Buick made over 2000 of this body style alone. It is powered by a 4.5 liter OHV 6 giving about 75BHP. In that period, Buick did a fair export business. Most with wood spoke wheels, but some with wire wheels. This one seems to have proper spline drive wheels, instead of the more common American Buffalo wire wheels. I cannot explain that unless I cannot see the pins that drive the wheels.

Looks like a 1926 Buick Master 6, with Buicks own body, different wheels to standard by Huok, OHV engine of 5200 cc,
3 speed gearbox with key locking device,
Unusually has nickelplated Head & side lamps,

The depicted car is definitely Buick - crowned fenders, side aprons and drum shaped headlights indicate model year 1926, nickel plated head lights and cowl lamps suggest Master Six serie on 128“ wheelbase with 6 cylinder 274 ci OHV engine. Body style looks like 5 pasenger touring that leads to model designation 26-55. Master Six of 1927 model year would carry goddess radiator cap and 7 passenger touring cars under designation 26-49 were quite scarce. 21“ Buffalo (or Ash) wire wheels and side kick plates were offered as an extra option. Approximately 2051 cars 26-55 have been produced.
I would appreciate to get better resolution picture for my personal archive as well as more details about East European origin of this picture.

G'day--I am sure that you will be flooded with answers on this one!
Buick 1924/25 Model 35 Master 6.
Clues:
Radiator shape. Headlights fully plated (Master series).
Sidelights drum type factory issue. Houke wire wheels (again Master series issue). They look like 600 by 21. Maybe a later mod. originally wheels were 500 by 23". Standard 6 had wood wheels.
Body is 5 passenger factory tourer.
Front bumper has 2 narrow blades. Later had 2 wide blades?
Running board has the factory kick plates which were standard on Master series.
Sunvisor to windscreen. Another Master series item.
It is ex USA factory as it is LH steering. Canadian (McLaughlan)factory ones were RH drive.
Specification 6 cyl pushrod OHV (as were all early Buicks)3.37" bore by 4.75" stroke. 3954cc. Transmission 3 spd. Rear axle ratio 4.60:1.Wheelbase (I think) 109".
By the way it looks to have an Anderson Autoreelite spot light on the windscreen pillar.
Cheers--------Jak.
