Sorry, but we can't help to be a bit nosy sometimes. Last week a small part advert came in asking for used tires...?
"I will take anything at all. Prefer good used, but will take completely worn out, good for rollers only, etc. I need 4, but would take 1, 2, or 3. Non-matching ok."
That's a funny ad we thought. So we sent an e-mail and asked. The advert was by Chris Paulsen, a lo-o-ong time PreWarCar visitor. He told me he had found this amazing unrestored 1911 Paige Detroit Model C Surrey with four cylinder 25HP Surrey (we think the body is a toy toneau, wrong?). The car is bizarre original with its original paint and pinstriping, original upholstery, original mats and more. Chris adds: "It had one owner from 1940-2003. Before 1940 was a Graham-Paige dealership, but I do not know how far back. It still has the 1941-53 Nebraska license plates stacked on the back. It has a set of Sprague-Waldo lights. They were $75 accessories on a $900 car. Windshield and top were accessories and this car appears to have never had them. It has a Bosch magneto only system-no battery system. We hope to have it running very soon."
In few words a once in a lifetime find. The only thing missing are the right tires. But -some guys have all the luck- not the wheels!! They came as an extra with the car. So to get the picture complete he wanted the old tires! Soon Chris will present the car in full luster & glory. Of course without spoiling the priceless patina.
