Who can identify this PreWarCar in India?

Thomas reached out to us with a request for identification. In the enclosed picture, you see the car in question. The only information we have is that the picture was taken in India, probably sometime in the 1920s.

Who can help identify this PreWarCar and tell Thomas more about it?

Definitely an Oakland. The 1929 Oaklands, Buicks, Auburns and Pontiacs all had a very similar radiator grille with a vertical centre divide, but only the Oakland had vertical bonnet louvres in 5 divided sets. The others had continuous louvres with no spaces between them, and those on the Auburn were slanted not vertical.

The car is almost certainly an Oakland. The marque was popular in India in the 1920s, and even assembled (in a rather primitive fashion) in Calcutta.

The picture shared seems to show the registration T 1979, which would likely match with the Bombay Presidency region of the 1920s. This system of registration numbers was void after 1939. Who are the occupants?
