A Stanley Mystery body? (upd.: Chrysler, Oakland or Oldmobile bodied?)

Kelly Williams comes up with this issue that has been bothering him the last 40 years: "This car was sold in the 1970s as a 1917 Stanley, with this body. It has 1917 Stanley front fenders and engine. It was completely restored with this body, but I'm pretty sure that the body is not Stanley. It looks more like it's from the late '20s, and it doesn't match any sedan body ever pictured in Stanley literature. Also, note the curved ridge on the body above the rear fender - like it was meant to align whatever the real fenders were that came with this body.

I can't find any other picture of a small sedan body with that center section and window between the front and rear doors.  It has been suggested that it was some sort of commercial body, but seems small for a funeral car, and I haven't found any antique taxi pictures to match.

Thanks for your help..."

This body has a number of similarities to some 1927-8 Chrysler models, but also some Oakland and Oldsmobile bodies. The double side molding with door handles between is a distinctive clue. It has clearly been modified, as it rides higher on the Stanley chassis that it did on its "birth" vehicle (some extra metal has been added above the rear fender). The windshield is obviously too small, so either it is a transplant or the body has been widened (less likely). Could be be that it's been stretching in length, and the b-pillar windows have been added? The condenser is not original to a 1917 Stanley, obviously, as that would be a vee type. This one dates from 1919 or later. Fascinating, though.
