Why not try this at home...

For anybody who has no ambition to learn Chinese or to become a worldchamp in crosswords here is another option to invest some time. The depicted Simplex transmission here you probably will not find at prewarparts.com , but you might try with a wanted advert. When nothing comes out ask us about David Greenlees who gave us this photo of one of his recent projects: "I hope this photo will serve as inspiration for any of you that have difficult restoration problems. At my shop we specialize in early cars and get involved with some very tough problems. Besides having machined new cylinder blocks for several cars we finished up machining a new transmission and differential case for one of Americas greatest early cars, the 50 H.P. Simplex (Digitalgallery.nypl.org). You may not want to try this at home in your garage but jobs which seem to be impossible can in fact be done by yourself with some thought and planning. This job was done with only two machines a lathe and a vertical milling machine, which between the two you can machine most anything and would be a great addition to any home shop. You can learn how to do it by starting with simple tasks and reading every book on machining you can find. With practice and imagination the confidence will follow and you will soon learn that you can make most anything. There is not a restoration problem you cannot solve if you spend the time to think it out. Someone made it the first time and so can you...."
